This was a fun way of doing equivalent fractions. The students also learned how to construct circles using a compass and how to use a protractor to divide up their circles evenly.

Symmetry and Origami Unit

The children are currently working on a symmetry unit which I have couple with origami lessons. Each student has a booklet which caters for abilities from about age 8 though to age 13 where compasses and protractors are required to construct the images. There is an assessment sheet attached to the front of the booklet. Our first  focus this week  was on bilateral symmetry, and the origami models chosen for exploration are based on this concept. On Monday the class will be sharing their newfound origami skills with their book buddies in Prep/1 Saunders. Feel free to come along and watch them in action. The session will run from 12:10 until 12:40.
